n-Somnia - 2025 Reissues + Future Plans

If any of you follow my n-Somnia page on Facebook, you may have noticed an announcement that I made regarding my releases on my Bandcamp page.  If not, I can now give you a recap and an update in more detail here.  So, here goes!

Firstly, I mentioned my future plans for the project at first, before going into the subject of re-releasing some of my back catalog that was unavailable to the public for a number of years.  Before I go into those future plans, I'll get into the topic of said reissues - and I'll explain why I've done this as I go.

The short version is I've re-released 7 of my past singles.  Why?  Because I wanted to show any new listeners that I've had material long before "The Awakening" album (2011).  Up until now, this album was listed on Bandcamp as my earliest release available, when in reality it was "Red Alert" (2002).  I've made these reissues to avoid confusion, basically.  But it doesn't end there.  A selected few of these reissued titles have had a slight makeover in the tracklist.  I'll explain why as I go into the detailed description.

My reissued titles are:

Red Alert (2002 single).

A Vision of Things to Come (2002 EP).

Robot Lover From Mars (2002 single).

Revolt! (2011 single).

Bio-Robots / Cruise Zone (2011 double A-side single).

Plague 99 (2011 single).

Shoulder Pads & Ankle Warmers (2012 single).

And now the detailed version.  Here's why I've chosen these releases...

RED ALERT - As my first single, I think it seems fair to include it.  I want people to know how it all began from the moment they find my page.

A VISION OF THINGS TO COME - Reissued for the same reason as "Red Alert", really.

ROBOT LOVER FROM MARS - Same reason, but also because of its success after the initial release.

REVOLT! - This is the first of the reissued singles to show any changes to the tracklist (as mentioned before).  In the original release, this single contained its current tracks along with the 3 versions of "Red Alert" as B-sides.  Today, this single no longer has those 3 tracks.  Instead, it only has the title song, "Chrysalis" and the remix version of "Revolt!"  This decision was mainly made because of the "Red Alert" single being reissued.

BIO-ROBOTS / CRUISE ZONE - Just like "Revolt!", the reissued version of the single no longer contains tracks from "The Early Years".  In this case, it no longer features "Robot Lover From Mars" or "Robot Lover Reprise" as B-sides.  It now just has the 2 A-side tracks and the remix of "Bio-Robots".  Also, if you purchase this single in full, you may find an added bonus in your download.

PLAGUE 99 - Again, no longer features tracks from "The Early Years".  In this case, it no longer features "Toy Store" and "Starlifter".  These songs can be found on the "Singularity" compilation album, so there was no need to keep them on this single.  The reissue only features the title track and its remix.

SHOULDER PADS & ANKLE WARMERS - This one goes in a slightly different direction to the other reissues, as this one is mostly the same as the original, except that it features an extra track.  The original had the title track and the demo version of "Surfing Down the Drain" as its B-side.  It now has the remix version of "Love Parade" as an extra, only this one has been placed in between the other 2 songs.

With all that being said, you've probably got some more questions - why aren't all the singles reissued?  Yes, there are some I've chosen not to re-release, and here's why:

RAINFOREST - The only B-sides featured in the original single were basically all versions of "Eliminator" (up to the year 2006) and "Electronica".  No remixes or other unreleased tracks were put on this one.  It would've been pointless re-releasing the radio edit of this track on its own when it's on the "Singularity" compilation.

YOUTH CULTURE - "Chrysalis" was also the B-side on this single, so it would be silly to reissue it since that song is also on "Revolt!"

STUPID & OBLIVIOUS - Same B-side as "Shoulder Pads & Ankle Warmers".

HOPE - I have other plans for the B-side of this single (demo version of "Once More"), which will also see its re-release there.  In which case, there's no point in reissuing this one.

BREAKDANCE - Just like "Hope", the B-side for this single (incomplete demo of "Trancelation") also has future plans.

GCSB - Since half of this EP was made up of previously released songs, and the 2 new ones are already on "Singularity", there's no point in reissuing this one either.

THE ONLY RACE IS "HUMAN" - Also featured previously released songs as B-sides, with the exception of the instrumental version.  I could've reissued this one with just the 2 title tracks, but they can be downloaded if you pay for the full version of the "Harbinger" EP anyway.

ROCKETCHILD (WHERE DID YOU GO?) - All B-sides were previously released songs, and the title track is on "Singularity".

ALL SINGLES FROM "THE EMPIRES TRILOGY" - The B-sides are available in the full purchase of each of the titles from this trilogy.

As for compilation albums that are no longer available, it's mainly because all the tracks are featured on other releases that are available.  For example, you won't see "X - The First Decade" anymore, as it's basically the first half of "Singularity".

Now that we've covered the reissues, let's cover the future plans (sorry it's taken so long to get to this part - I won't take as long for this section, promise!).

I've mentioned in the past that I'm planning on a 5-album project based on the songs I wrote back in high school - before I joined Supertrip.  This is still happening, but it's been delayed due to unforeseen events in my personal life (which I will cover at a later date in a future blog post).  I was originally going to release the first of the 5 albums in August or September 2025.  Because of my life events getting in the way, I haven't even been able to record anything yet, let alone rewrite the songs in question.  So, obviously, I won't be able to meet that deadline.  Very sorry for that.  It will happen though, just not soon.

Because of these events in life and various other changes, I've been reshuffling my list of album concepts that I've got in mind.  Some of these concepts require live instruments, but among my various other issues, there are some technical difficulties even in that area, which will take time and cost money to resolve, unfortunately.  So the live instrument albums will also have to wait along side of my previously mentioned 5-album project (which also need live instruments, by the way).

But there's a light at the end of this tunnel...

Among my planned concept albums, there are 2 that are to be mostly (if not all) digitally produced.  You know, the old-fashioned method I've been doing since 2002.  Because of this, I can actually squeeze in some time to make these 2 albums, where needed.  However, I am going to be casual about it.  There will be no rush to make the songs or release them, as I do still need to focus on what's happening in my personal life.

My plan is to complete both recordings before I release anything.  That way I can put them out gradually over time while I focus on other projects, among other things.  I will keep everyone up-to-date with the progress of these 2 albums as they happen.  Make sure you follow my Faceboook page to get all the news when it's announced.

I apologise for such a long blog entry this time.  I've clearly had a lot to say (for once).  Maybe I should post more often...haha.

Thanks for reading. 😁

April Fool's Day 2025 - A Review

Well, it's that time of the year again.  I think you know the drill, so let's jump straight into it.

I should warn you though, that the list of hilarious April Fool's jokes this year is quite lengthy.  I'm guessing that each of these companies and people have been having a long think about what they would do this time around, and I applaud each and every one of you.

Remember, you can click/tap on each image to enlarge it, if needed.

So, let's freakin' go!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. NEW WORLD SUPERMARKETS - Wasabi Bread
This first entry came in the form of a Facebook Reel, so you'll need to click here to watch it.  If you were to ask me though, if it were real, I may have been interested in trying this.  It might go down well with shredded chicken or fish.
2.  P.B. TECH - GGBeancC Computer
If it's anything like me, it would be running on gas power.
3. HORNBY - GREATER HORNBY RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION INC - New IKEA Store
Truthfully, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea having it here, but I've seen the construction area.  There's absolutely no room for them to move into the Hornby area.  Not now anyway.  Also, the older style newspaper design of The NZ Herald is a bit of a hint that it's fake.
4. HANMER SPRINGS THERMAL POOLS & SPA - NZ Bobsleigh Skeleton Collaboration
Cool Runnings, anyone?  Also, a special shout out to Shane Adcock, who appears in this Facebook Reel.  You did good keeping a straight face while announcing this one.
5. TRADE ME - Facebook Marketplace
A short and sweet one from NZ's most popular buy/sell websites.  Taking a stab at their Facebook competition - and rightfully so.  Marketplace is trash.
6. ReBURGER - Pickleverse
 If any of this year's entries were to make me vomit, it would be this one.  Thank goodness it's not real.
7. SOUNDING BOARD - The Bruce Tour
This entry comes to us from a group on Facebook called Sounding Board, which is affiliated with the NZ radio station, The Sound.  Group member, Mark Vaudrey decided to play a prank on the group by announcing an unlikely concert tour featuring only acts named Bruce.  Something tells me the guys in the band, Rubicon would disapprove.
8. LEWIS ROAD CREAMERY - Caffeine-Infused Haircare
To be honest, some coffee-drinkers are so addicted to this stuff, I'm surprised they don't smear it all over themselves already.
9. R.J.'S CONFECTIONERY - Fusion Fizz
Not gonna lie.  I'd definitely buy this, if it were real.
10. READING CINEMAS - THE PALMS - Pop Rice
I dunno.  If it was anything like Rice Bubbles or Coco Pops, it could be a fun snack.  Although, it would be harder to eat by hand, and the cinema cleaners will hate you for it.  Trust me.
11.  UP & GO - Down & Stop - Liquid Sleepies
A nice idea, but the flavours of choice sound a bit yuck.
12. NIGHT 'N DAY - Important Menu Update
The comments section for this one made me miss how smart society used to be.  So many people fell for this one, it's quite sad.  There's absolutely no way Night 'n Day would ever do this to us.
13. KFC - Sweet Sanders Ice Cream
To be honest, I'm kind of disappointed that KFC isn't bringing out another dessert option.  Apart from the mousse and cheesecake options, they've always had pretty much nothing else that's sweet, unless it's a drink.  Just putting that out there.
14. THE HUB HORNBY - Pet Wedding Chapel
A fun little idea from the local mall that holds pet-friendly evenings each week.  Weddings for pets.  Me-ow, indeed!
The original post was accompanied by an AI-generated image of 2 dogs dressed in a tux and dress, but I'm not gonna expose you to that.  Screw AI.
15. DWIGHT BRUCE - Only Fans
This entry comes to us from a friend of mine.  Because his posts are set to Friends Only, most people won't have seen it...until now.  Note: This is just a screenshot and not the actual video.  However, you do get the general idea.
P.S.  If you don't understand the joke, I'm not explaining it to you.
16. WEET-BIX NZ - Weet-Bix Puzzle
If it were real, I think this would be a very challenging puzzle to put together.
17. CHRISTCHURCH CASINO - Strip Poker
No comment.
18. LITTLE HIGH EATERY - Seagulls
Glad this one's fake.  I can't stand them even looking at me when I have food.
19. INDOMIE NEW ZEALAND - Indomie Perfume
I used to be called Noodle Man at home because I used to eat 2-Minute Noodles on a regular basis.  If I'd kept it up, I probably would've started smelling like them eventually.  If this were real, it would've saved time (although, I'd still be hungry).
20. WENDY'S NZ - Baconator Frosty
I know people who'd probably try this.  The same people who dip their chips in ice cream, no doubt.
21. BURGER KING NZ - Soft Serve Burger
While on the subject of fast food, here's BK's entry.  I can already see how messy this would've been.
22. ALPINE SPAS NZ - Brad Pitt
So many gullible people in the comments section yet again with this one.  I fear for humanity.
Also, "Stnff"???
23. ROCKGAS NEW ZEALAND
Sure, it "might" give off a nice smell, but I don't think the infusion part is how science works - and I failed that subject in 5th Form / Year 11.  I do, however, like the bit about the pulled leg.
24. DONOVANS CHOCOLATE - New Chocolate Drop Varieties
I can see lemon and bubblegum possibly working well with chocolate, but not so much the other 2.
25. BLUEY - Can You Find Longdog?
If you're a fan of the Australian animated series, "Bluey", you'll be aware of the fact that there is a "Longdog" hidden in each episode.  The big joke here, however, is that there is no Longdog to be found in these images.  An old-fashioned troll post from this generation's most beloved cartoons.
26. SUBWAY / BIRD'S EYE - Footlong Chip Butty
Let's be honest - we'd totally eat this.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

So, there you have it.  I hope you enjoyed this list of April Fool's posts for 2025 as much as I have.  Those involved have really stepped things up this year.

A special shout out to Gary Fox (a.k.a. TahkAnimation), who runs the Kiwi Retro page on YouTube.  His most recently uploaded classic TV commercial - Michael Hill Shoes - would've made the list officially had it not been real (seriously, do a search for it).

Forgotten Favourites on YouTube

 Hello...

Yes, I'm still alive.  Just been very busy!  I know it's almost mid-March already and I haven't posted a blog entry since December, but yeah.  So much has been happening, but not enough for me to share on here yet.

So, why am I here?  To blog, silly.  On a serious note, I do have a topic to share.  "Forgotten Favourites".

As you should know by now, I had a radio show at Plains FM from May 2015 to May 2020, featuring music that often gets overlooked and overshadowed by bigger radio hits.  For a while after the show ended, I had a single playlist on YouTube with every song I played there.  However, as some videos would vanish from YouTube for no reason, it became harder to maintain the playlist when it comes to replacing the missing ones with videos shared by other channels.  Especially with 5 years worth of songs at an average of 12-13 tracks per month.  So, I came up with a plan...

From now on, that single playlist no longer exists.  Instead, it has been divided into 6!  Each one representing the years I was at PFM.  With these shorter playlists, it would be easier for me to manage if a song disappears randomly.  Also, it'll be easier for you to find particular songs.

Below are links to the 6 playlists.  Enjoy!

1. May to December 2015.

2. 2016.

3. 2017.

4. 2018.

5. 2019.

6. January to May 2020.
